Described as one of the most detailed studies of human health and development in the world, the Dunedin Study has followed the lives of 1037 babies born at Queen Mary Maternity Hospital, Dunedin/Ōtepoti, Aotearoa/New Zealand between April 1, 1972 and March 31, 1973. Dunedin Study members have now been participating regularly in the Study, for more than 50 years. Moana is only the third director of the Study.
Moana will talk about Dunedin Study as it marks more than half a century of research. She will describe the Study’s history, what makes the Study unique, the “treasure trove” of information that has been collected over time, examples of key areas of research, and the Study’s impact on policy and practice. She will finish by describing current and future challenges and opportunities.
Reremoana (Moana) Theodore is a Professor specialising in longitudinal research. She is the Director of the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study (the Dunedin Study) and former director of the National Centre for Lifecourse Research in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Moana has a background in Māori health research and is of Ngāpuhi descent. She has had a number of governance roles including serving on the Council of New Zealand’s Royal Society Te Apārangi.
