The Life Course Roadmap: First Nations Gathering

Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander wisdom in the future of life course research

The Life Course Centre is a national research initiative focused on disadvantage and opportunity over the life course. The Life Course Roadmap aims to map the priorities for research, policy and practice in Australia over the next decade, to set a visionary agenda for government, non-government and research organisations to work together to improve outcomes for all Australians. We believe the First Nations experience should be front and centre in this endeavour, to recognise First Nations People’s unique position in Australia, and to learn from their integrated approach to knowledge, land, family and community.

This workshop is by invite only. If you would like to make an enquiry please send an email to: lcc@uq.edu.au

What to expect

This workshop is a space for First Nations Peoples to come together — community members, Elders, knowledge holders, researchers, etc. — to share what they know, what they’ve experienced, and what they believe good research should look like.
People connected to the Life Course Centre will gather for an open, honest conversation about what’s working, what’s hard, and what community-led research can look like at its best.

What we’ll explore

No two research journeys look the same. This workshop is a chance to reflect on those experiences together and use them to build something lasting. Together, we will:

  • Reflect on emerging themes, challenges, and successes from current First Nations research projects
  • Share insights on what best practice looks like for First Nations research within the Centre
  • Help shape the foundational principles and vision of the Roadmap

From the ground up

By listening, reflecting, and co-creating, this workshop ensures the Roadmap is grounded in the genuine expertise and lived experience of First Nations researchers and communities.

What comes out of this workshop will form the foundation of that Roadmap.
