Dr Alexandra de Gendre

Alexandra de Gendre is a Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne. She is an economist interested in labor economics and applied econometrics. In her research, Alexandra exploits natural experiments in observational data and administrative records to explore the causes and consequences of socioeconomic disadvantage in human capital formation. She investigates how families respond to their social environment in education and to welfare policies, and how these responses affect educational outcomes and socioeconomic disadvantage. 

Before joining the University of Melbourne, Alexandra was a postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Sydney. She received her Ph.D. in Economics from Maastricht University in the Netherlands in March 2021, where she was supervised by Prof. Olivier Marie. Alexandra holds a M.Sc. degree in Statistics from Ensai in France, and a M.Sc. in Economics from Humboldt University in Germany.

Alexandra is also a Research Affiliate at the IZA Institute of Labor Economics since July 2018.
