Dr Chaminda Rajeev Samarage

Rajeev Samarage is a Senior Research Fellow and the Program Coordinator for Data & Analytics at the Melbourne Institute: Applied Economic & Social Research, a leading institute for applied economic and social research within the Faculty of Business and Economics. Rajeev has over 13 years’ experience in data analytics, data visualisation and developing statistical methodologies for data analyses.

His past experiences involved the translation of engineering concepts to the health science as seen through the work he did for his PhD in deriving meaningful quantitative information from image data; and his role in designing medical image diagnostic products for an Australian medical imaging technology company.

Now Rajeev is translating his engineering experience to innovate data analytics and data visualisation in the social sciences. Rajeev also provides his data management experience to provide project oversight of the Melbourne Institute Data Lab, a secure PROTECTED-level data enclave that enables researchers to access sensitive administrative and survey data from state and federal Australian government and other proprietary sources. Rajeev is also the lead for the Foundation Fellow Training Program, an in-house program to uplift data analytics capability at the Melbourne Institute.
