Dr Ning Xiang

An experienced researcher with a multi-disciplinary training background, Ning is a Senior Research Assistant in the Education, Employment and Disadvantage group at ISSR. Ning has worked on the Student Engagement Research and Analysis Project for the New South Wales Government, as well as a number of other projects funded by the Department of Education, Skills and Employment (DESE), Brisbane Catholic Education, Queensland Department of Education and the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education (NCSEHE).

Previously, Ning worked on the national evaluation of the Australian Government’s Paid Parental Leave (PPL) scheme and the follow-up ARC Linkage project, Millennium Mums Survey. She participated in some major projects, such as the Review of Equity Groups in Higher Education for the DESE, which investigated educational disadvantage of various groups; and Investigating the effects of cumulative disadvantage, which is a follow-up project funded under the 2018 National Priorities Pool round. Ning has also significantly contributed to three projects funded though the NCSEHE’s Research Grant Scheme, utilising data from LSAY and HILDA to investigate the impacts of school-based support on university participation of low socio-economic status students, tracking graduate outcomes of equity students, and the educational attainment of students from refugee background.

Ning has specialist expertise in literature review, data preparation, management, screening and analysis which she has applied to great effect in these projects. Ning has a track record of successfully delivering accessible and policy informing documentation.
