Congratulations to Professor Janeen Baxter who was inducted into the US National Academy of Sciences during the Presentation Ceremony for Members Elected.
The ceremony, held in Washington DC in late April, saw members officially introduced to their colleagues in the Academy and sign the Registry of Membership.
The Director of the Life Course Centre was elected as an international member last year in recognition for her distinguished and continued achievements in original research.
Professor Baxter was one of only 24 international members announced on the list and was the only Australian academic elected in 2024.
Comprised of leading scientists from various disciplines, the National Academy of Sciences was founded in 1863 as a result of an Act of Congress approved by President Abraham Lincoln to provide independent and objective advice on matters relating to science and technology.
Scientists are elected by their peers, and it is considered one of the highest honours a scientist can receive.
