Getting your work published in social science journals as a Research Higher Degree (RHD) student or an Early Career Researcher (ECR) may sound like a daunting task. In this workshop, ISSR & Life Course Centre (LCC) Senior Research Fellows Paco Perales and Cameron Parsell will share tips and tricks, and their hands-on experiences in succeeding (and often failing) in this process.
The workshop will cover topics such as pre-publication options, journal choice, submission preparation, the review process, types of decisions, responding to reviews, and moving on after rejections. It is aimed at RHD students, ECRs and other junior researchers who intend to publish their work in national or international peer-reviewed journals, but all are welcome.
Collectively, Paco & Cameron have published 63 peer-reviewed journal articles, often as lead authors, in high-ranked, internationally recognised outlets, such as the British Journal of Sociology, Journal of Marriage and Family, Social Forces, Urban Studies, American Journal of Public Health and Social Service Review. This places them in a good position to deliver this workshop.
This is an event sponsored by both the Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Children and Families over the Life Course (Life Course Centre).
Dr Francisco (Paco) Perales is a Senior Research Fellow at ISSR and LCC, and an ARC DECRA Fellow. He is a life-course researcher with expertise in longitudinal survey data analysis, and interests in substantive areas such as social disadvantage, gender, work, families, and sexual identity.
Dr Cameron Parsell is also a Senior Research Fellow at ISSR and LCC, and an ARC DECRA Fellow. Cameron has published in various disciplines across the social sciences. He is interested in ethnographic research and has expertise in identity, poverty, homelessness, and social welfare.
